IR Blaster Cable Positioning

There are several reasons why the SlingPlayer remote control might not work. The problem could be hardware related, software related, or both. By checking the following, you will be able to narrow the issue down:

  • Make sure that the IR control cable plugged in all the way and seated firmly in the back of the Slingbox. THis is best done by unplugging the cable and then plugging it back in, listening for that click.
  • If no IR codes appear for your A/V device, try all possible codes, including those labeled as "other."
  • Assuming you have tried all the IR codes that are “close” to the device you are trying to connect—including the “other” category—you might have a device that we don’t control at this time. If so, check the Sling Media Web site for software updates, as IR codes are added as they become available.
  • Check the positioning of the IR emitters. Make sure that the emitter (bulb) end of the IR control cable is hanging over the edge of your A/V device and properly positioned in front of its IR sensor. The IR control cable is strong compared to others, but needs to be at the proper angle.
  • Use the “camera test” to see if the IR cable is functioning properly.
  • As a last resort, make sure that your A/V remote control is still working. A strong red light flashes on the remote control when it is working.
